St Cuthbert's Parish Church Photo of St Cuthbert's Church

From January 2011, all our concerts (and rehearsals) will take place under one roof - that of St Cuthbert's Parish Church in Lothian Road. It is the first time in the orchestra's forty-year history that all rehearsals have been held in the actual concert venue. This will bring enormous benefits: to the players, in not having to adjust to differing acoustics; and to the conductor, in not being forced to rebalance the orchestra on the concert day.

We believe it will also bring substantial benefits to you - our valued patrons. In addition to there being a balcony on three sides of St Cuthbert's, the sight lines on both levels are far superior to our previous venue. We also hope to offer refreshments during the interval, and the toilet facilities are excellent also.

St Cuthbert's is a beautiful building, right in the centre of things - which, after all, is exactly where Sinfonia should be! We look forward to welcoming you, and we know that you will greatly enjoy the enhanced concert experience.

Being situated right at Edinburgh's "West End", St Cuthbert's is easily accessible by public transport - around twenty Lothian Buses services pass within a hundred yards or so! For those travelling by car, the Castle Terrace car park is just across Kings Stables Road. More information about St Cuthbert's Parish Church and its history can be found on their website, and a Google map showing its location can be seen here.

Greyfriars Kirk Drawing of Greyfriars Kirk
Greyfriars Kirk, in Edinburgh's Old Town, is situated at the top of Candlemaker Row (at the junction with George IV Bridge), and is overlooked by Edinburgh Castle. This historic church is within walking distance of Princes Street and Waverley Station, and it is close to both the Edinburgh Festival Fringe box office in the High Street, and to the Festival Theatre in Nicolson Street. Several bus services pass the door, including Lothian Buses services 2, 23, 27, 35, 41, 42 and 45, and additional services are a few minutes walk away in South Bridge and Lothian Road.

The Usher Hall
The Usher Hall is situated on Lothian Road, a few minutes walk from the west end of Princes Street. It boasts one of the world's finest acoustics for orchestral music. It is easily accessible on foot from central Edinburgh, the majority of local bus services pass close by, and there are several nearby car parks. Further information is available on the Usher Hall website.
